TDN 3, 4, 5 Explained: The Complete TestDaF Scoring Guide 2026
By Nguyen Duc Minh

TDN 3, 4, 5 and Digital TestDaF Points
TestDaF reports each skill separately. A strong result in one skill does not automatically compensate for a weaker one.
| Digital points per skill | TDN level |
|---|---|
| 0-4 | below TDN 3 |
| 5-9 | TDN 3 |
| 10-15 | TDN 4 |
| 16-20 | TDN 5 |
Because each digital skill has 0-20 points, a 0-80 total can be calculated. Admissions decisions, however, usually focus on the level in each skill, not just the total. A common requirement is TDN 4 in all four skills, but programs may set different rules.
TDN 3 shows more limited academic-language performance, TDN 4 commonly meets the admission threshold, and TDN 5 is the highest level. Avoid treating each TDN as an exact universal CEFR equivalence or claiming that a particular subject always requires TDN 5. Check the program's official admission page.
