TestDaF Writing 2026: Prepare for the Correct Format

Digital and paper-based TestDaF Writing are not the same task.

Digital

• About 60 minutes.
• Task 1: an argumentative text of at least 200 words.
• Task 2: a 100-150 word summary using information from a reading text and graphic.
• You type the answers; an additional unscored trial task may appear.

Paper-Based

• 60 minutes.
• One handwritten, structured text combining a graphic or data description with argumentation on a socially relevant issue.
• Only the text on the official answer sheet is assessed.

In both formats, assessment focuses on task completion, coherence, appropriate use of sources, vocabulary, grammar, and accuracy. Do not memorize one fixed essay. Practice planning quickly, paraphrasing source material accurately, and leaving time to revise.
